Senior Legal Adviser Financial Markets Regulation

De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek is looking for a senior legal adviser for its corporate financial markets regulation practice.

Our financial markets regulation practice group (FMR) advises financial firms on complex financial regulatory matters, which are driven or affected by the supervision and regulation of the financial services industry. We advise large national and international groups of banks, insurance companies, investment firms and other financial firms on corporate/M&A and capital markets transactions.

The ideal candidate is an experienced lawyer who is at home in the financial regulatory practice and who knows what matters to our clients. As a legal adviser, your main responsibility will be sharing and developing your expertise with colleagues throughout the firm, as well as with our clients.

You will join a dynamic, international team of regulatory specialists who form part of our corporate transactions practice. You will provide our dedicated team with ongoing guidance, mentoring and support, and you will also maintain close ties with lawyers in other jurisdictions relevant to our clients. This is an ideal position for the lawyer who is looking for an intellectual challenge in an environment with good work-life balance or for someone who wants to work at a premier European law firm while pursuing an academic goal, such as completing a thesis.

About the role

You will work closely with the FMR practice group lawyers and assist them as needed. This includes advising our lawyers on issues related to your area of expertise, organising lunches and trainings, assisting in creating client presentations, developing tools and organising events. Other tasks include maintaining a knowledge base with precedents, drafting memoranda and developing templates. You will also write updates and contribute to newsletters for clients and colleagues on developments relevant to the practice.

You will also work closely with 15 other legal advisers. Together, these individuals form part of the broader Legal Operations department. Our Legal Operations department is responsible for optimising legal service delivery to our clients. There are various teams, including know-how systems and resources, professional support, legal project management and litigation support, who help achieve this end. As a legal adviser, you — together with other experts in this department – will work to maximise our legal delivery.

We are constantly reviewing and improving on the way we work. And as part of your role, you will drive innovation in our FMR practice. You will regularly share best practices among our legal advisers.

We offer you a challenging and independent role with flexible working hours in a dynamic and international practice.

Our ideal candidate

  • has over 5 years’ relevant experience as a lawyer or counsel in an international financial markets regulation practice, ideally in the European Union
  • is innovative, self-starting, sociable and assertive in dealing with all levels of an organization
  • is sociable and has good communication skills – a team player who is able to connect at all levels of the firm
  • has a good understanding of financial markets regulation issues and dynamics, and is able to see the big picture
    is well-organised and hands-on
  • has good writing skills, an excellent command of the English language, and working knowledge of the Dutch language (minimum B2 level)
  • is a skilled PowerPoint user, and is IT-savvy

Candidates with a non-Dutch law background are also invited to apply.
