Senior Legal Adviser Corporate Crime & Investigations (1.0 – 0.8 FTE)

De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek is looking for a Senior Legal Adviser for its Corporate Crime & Investigations (CCI) practice.

De Brauw’s CCI team advises and represents major corporations, financial institutions and prominent individuals in a wide range of regulatory and criminal enforcement matters regarding inter alia securities laws, insider trading, competition law, economic sanctions, anti-corruption laws and other regulatory regimes. What makes our practice different from similar practices at other law firms is that we combine our criminal and regulatory law practices in one team. Our CCI practice, which consists of 25 lawyers, is at the forefront of the growing internationalisation of criminal and regulatory investigations, where international fraud and corruption matters are increasingly investigated by regulators and criminal authorities in different jurisdictions.

The ideal candidate is an experienced lawyer who is at home in the regulatory and criminal enforcement practice and who knows what matters to our clients. As a Senior Legal Adviser, your main responsibility will be sharing and developing your expertise with colleagues throughout the firm, as well as with our clients. You will provide our dedicated team with ongoing guidance, mentoring and support, and you will also maintain close ties with lawyers in other jurisdictions relevant to our clients.

This is an ideal position for the lawyer who is looking for an intellectual challenge in an environment with good work-life balance or for someone who wants to work at a premier European law firm while pursuing an academic goal, such as completing a thesis.

About the role

In your role, you will work closely with the lawyers and other Senior Legal Advisers of the Regulatory Enforcement group and support them as needed. This includes advising our lawyers on issues related to your area of expertise, organising lunches and trainings, assisting in creating client presentations, developing tools and organising events. Other tasks include maintaining a knowledge base with precedents, drafting memoranda and developing templates. You will also write updates and contribute to newsletters for clients and colleagues on developments relevant to the practice.

You will work closely with 15 other Legal Advisers. Together, these individuals form part of the broader Legal Operations department. As a Senior Legal Adviser, you — together with other experts in this department – will work to maximise our legal delivery. We are constantly reviewing and improving on the way we work. And as part of your role, you will drive innovation in our CCI practice. You will regularly share best practices among our legal advisers.

We offer you a challenging and independent role with flexible working hours in a dynamic and international practice.

Our ideal candidate:

–       has over 5 years’ relevant experience as a lawyer in an international regulatory and criminal enforcement practice or in a similar role

–       is innovative, self-starting, sociable and assertive in dealing with all levels of an organisation

–       has a good understanding of regulatory and criminal enforcement issues and is able to see the big picture

–       has good communication and writing skills, an excellent command of the English language, and is fluent in the Dutch language

–       is a skilled PowerPoint user, and is IT-savvy
